I was born at 9:33 AM on Thursday, May 18th, 2006 in the Athens-Limestone Hospital in Athens, Alabama. I was 7 pounds, 9 ounces and 19 inches long. My name is ancient Irish Gaelic meaning "joy" or "luminous", and it's pronounced "ON-ya". The Connolly part is in honor of my dad's mom, and when I look at daddy a certain way, he calls me 'Louise', because I remind him of her.
Daddy says I was beautiful when I was born, even though I was covered in poop and blood, but daddy often exaggerates - I was just a little disheveled from mommy's labor. Still, after he cut my umbilical cord, daddy followed me into the nursery and had a long chat with me while the nurses checked me over and mommy was in recovery.
After over thirty hours in labor, mom was tired, but it wasn't long before I learned how to eat! Milk... yum! and then something strange happened, and daddy had to change my diaper. While he was at it, he went ahead and gave me my first bath. I guess I had stuff between my toes and behind my ears, so it was okay.
We stayed in the hospital for a couple of days, and then we went home to meet the dog; I remember her barking from inside mommy's tummy. I know she loves me, but I wish she would quit licking my toes.
